Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin
Pershing
(Polyvinyl)

“Glue Girls” leads off Pershing, the sophomore LP by Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, with a bubblegummy, everything’s cheery pop vibe that gives the LP a false, shallow initial impression. Lucky for us, Springfield, MO’s SSLYBY piles it on from there. “Boring Fountain” pours oodles of jangly guitar into the mix much like something out of Bristol, UK in the early nineties. It really gets interesting from here as their harmonies and pop sensibility are akin to the Teenage Fanclub on “Dead Right,” with an alt-country twist in adding strings. “Modern Mystery” and “You Could Write a Book” treble their way around catchiness in a Chin Up Chin Up meets the Shins vein. The LP is easy to get caught up in, and then before you know it it's suddenly over. Ending on a moonshine version of “Boring Mountain” aids in the desire to belly-up to the bar for another round!
