The Blood Brothers
"March On, Electric Children"
(Three One G)
Fans of the Blood Brothers will find a new sound on "March on Electric
Children". On the band's last effort entitled "This Adultery is
Ripe", they used their music and voices to create a giant cloud of sound
that builds and doesn't come down until the last second of the record. On
"March On", the band has gained an unbelievable amount of musicality
and musical sense. Not that their previous efforts were not musical, but they
didn't emphasize the music as much as on their new album. The voices of brutal,
whaling screeches traded off between singers still remain as they always have
and the searing augmented chords still explode out of the speakers. However,
the record is so interesting musically, that even those listeners who "don't
like screaming" will find a place for this album in their hearts.
Track 6 ,"Siamese Gun", is a good example of where the Blood Brothers
have been and where they're going. This song features all of those great attributes
of their earlier work but adds stronger songwriting, better phrasing and well
thought-out transitions. Since "This Adultery..." The Blood Brothers
have decided to use more a more mathy style to accompany their brutal sound,
and I think this makes for a great and really interesting mix.
A distinctive difference in the Blood Brothers' writing is that their music
has become even more unpredictable than before. Most bands write in a way
that you can always kind of tell what is going to happen next, and this has
never been a characteristic of the B.B.'s music. Fans of the Blood Brothers
and any kind of brutal rock will ADORE this album. But once again, the best
thing about the record is that fans of any kind of indie rock will really
respect this. By the way, track 9 is a classic. BUY THIS.
