Erase Errata
"Other Animals
(Troubleman Unlimited)
A powerful mix of new wave and no wave with just enough Beefheart thrown in
to make it all o.k. Erase Errata pack quite a punch into less than a half-hour's
worth of music. Rather than rehash the accomplishments of their predecessors
and pay homage to a dead scene, the girls of Erase Errata make the old modern,
adding a little warbled turntable to the beginning of "delivery,"
or synth-esque bass stutter to "marathon." Definitely a must for fans
of Theoretical Girls, DNA, Mars, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, and the like.
At a time when people like Arto Lindsay, Ikue Mori, and even Sonic Youth, are
getting all high art, Erase Errata bring it back to the gutter. The vocal approach
ranges from Talking Heads era David Byrne (other animals are #1), to perfect
Beefheart (high society), and the music backs it up nicely, with jagged guitars,
flailing bass, frantic drums, and the occasional trumpet. Not for people with
nervous conditions, Erase Errata provide a refreshing piece of madness to throw
yourself around the room to. Fans of this should also try and find the Japanese
reissue of the No New York comp.
