The Flaming Sideburns
" Save Rock 'n' Roll"
(Jetset Records)
Rock music is not dead. Lenny Kravitz is an idiot for saying so, and may
he burn in hell with Creed and 'NSYNC. Jetset released this album in preparation
for the revolution that is Rock 'n' Roll. Except that the revolution happened
forty years ago. But you can't hold that against them. When something is teetering
on becoming "The Next Big Thing" every label should try to jump
on the bandwagon. "Bandwagon" tends to have a negative connotation
in the music industry, but it shouldn't. Everyone resides on a bandwagon of
some sort, so why you gotta hate?
I will confess. The Flaming Sideburns are a great band. If you love the New
York Dolls and good old fashioned Rock 'n' Roll then let the Sideburns start
the fire. These NYC less-than-gents will be touring with the Mooney Suzuki,
Sahara Hot Nights and the Hives on next year's "We Came to Get Down"
tour. I made that up. There's no such tour. Sorry for the rise in hopes.
Power chords and sharp guitars provide all the saturation you need, in that
'73 Marshall vein, and the drummer is a veritable rhythmic demon. Add that
tighter than tight low end and you've got yourself the perfect recipe for
great Rock Music. There will be no lighter lit ballads, no sweet memorial
jams. There will only be a rioting crowd, a lot of liquor, and a hell of a
big mess to clean up. Ah, the power of Rock. Grab the Sideburns while they're
hot, hot, hot.
