Her Space Holiday
"Audio Astronomy"
(Tiger Style Records)
Marc Bianchi, singer/songwriter of Her Space Holiday, decided on a much different
canvas to create upon when releasing "Home Is Where You Hang Yourself"
back in 2000. The follow up record released in 2001 was simply astounding.
"Manic Expressive" was a tribute to minimalism and the true nature
of sonic exploration. Song writing is a very difficult endeavor, in itself,
but when you can add amazing textures via synthesizers, acoustics, and even
lap steels, it allows for the advent of spatial repetition in your studio
experience. I, myself, am no expert on the inner workings of Her Space Holiday,
or their studio for the matter, just an amateur with some valuable experience.
The formula Marc Bianchi used on "Manic Expressive" worked then,
and worked on his latest release, "Audio Astronomy". Apparently
half of these songs were released as a 12" on Train Bridge Records back
in 1997 making "Audio Astronomy" Her Space Holiday's debut release.
For those of you out there looking to appreciate a little "dark and somber"
in your musical diets, "Audio Astronomy" will fit the bill with
haste and eagerness. All you emo kids, who've begun to outgrow those power
chords and whimpering vocalists, can look forward to sensitivity and emotion
comfortably nestled in a well thought out and surprisingly well produced experience,
that is Her Space Holiday.
Lest we not forget style, Marc Bianchi provides all of the fundamentals for
that all too transcendental Modern Rock label. The following represent a short
list of things, great and small, that reflect this: slightly out of tune vocals,
slightly out of tune guitars, two note leads, wide open platforms of sound,
and tragic relationships. It'll make you cry. And if it doesn't, check it
out with your friendly, neighborhood psychotherapist.
