Japancakes
"Belmondo"
(Darla Bliss Out v. 19)
Yet another exciting aural piece of spacey fuzz and hum from the folks at
Darla and their Bliss Out series. It really is a wonder where they find the
energy and money to put out so many records. Kindercore's own Japancakes provide
the soundtrack to a weekends worth of hallucinogens this time, layering subtle
feedback onto keyboard textures and synth sput. Strings poke their heads up
to create a more dynamic and interesting record than one would guess at first
glance. Sort of like space rock meets chamber music in the basement of an
Athens, GA recording studio. 'Theme for a Film' could be just that, or a nice
song to listen to during a romantic meal if you're not fond of classical.
A record seemingly designed just for sitting around and relaxing, but most
certainly not for driving at night.
