KMFDM
"Attak!"
(Metropolis)
If you want to know what this CD sounds like, listen to their earlier release,
XTORT. These tired old industrial musicians are sticking to the same old formula
& it just sounds old. These guys should take a cue from other bands that
have been around as long as they have (i.e., U2, REM). You have to try different
things to keep from getting stale. I'm sure there are fans out there who like
this album, but I'm not one of them. It's like a DJ friend of mine told me
several years ago: "I don't really like KMFDM because all they do is
re-mix their earlier material."
I went to their concert a few months back. I wanted to see the opening act,
16Volt. While I was there, I overheard someone complaining about KMFDM, "Boy,
they sure do like to say their name a lot!" I could say it's because
they're from Germany. That doesn't apply because they've been singing English
lyrics for decades. I think it's just easier to repeat their name than it
is to come up with more interesting lyrics. A few of the lyrics are in German
& they're all printed on the CD jacket. I translated a few of the phrases
online & it sounded better in German.
wiederaugbau und vernichtung
wirklichkeit und heldendichtung
edle wahreit und legende
kmfdm zum bitteren ende
again-August-
build and to destruction reality and
hero seal noble and putting kmfdm to the bitter end
In the song titled "Rise" one of the phrases is "The ego has
landed..." That sounds so kitschy & cliché. It's not a true
statement. Maybe they should change their name to Megalomania.
